Eligibility: You must meet their income and asset guidelines, or be of age 60 or older. They do not handle criminal, immigration, personal injury, malpractice, workers' comp, traffic violations or probate legal issues.

Service goal: Equip for Equality serves as a legal advocate for people with disabilities and as an independent watchdog. To carry out our responsibilities under federal law, we are granted broad, federal statutory powers. We promote self-advocacy and serve as a legal advocate for people with disabilities, and handle individual cases and systems-change litigation to achieve broad-based societal reforms.

People who cannot get help from Iowa Legal Aid may be able to find a lawyer through the Iowa State Bar Association's Iowa Find-a-Lawyer website. Attorneys taking part in Iowa Find-a-Lawyer charge a $25.00 fee for the first 30-minute consultation. If you need more help beyond the 30-minute consultation, you will need to negotiate a fee arrangement with the attorney.
