Comics for All Ages: Manga/Anime

What is manga?

What is manga? Manga is a style of Japanese comic books and graphic novels. Manga is made for all ages, children, teens and adults. The artwork tends to be particular in the way human faces are drawn, especially the wide, big eyes, chin, nose, mouth and forehead. Manga is read from right to left, even the ones translated to English. At Davenport Public Library, manga is shelved and interfiled alongside graphic novels.

What is anime? Anime is a word used by people living outside of Japan to describe cartoons or animation produced within Japan. Anime refers exclusively to animation. There is no such thing as an anime comic book.
