Things to Look For

  • A straightforward storyline (not abstract metaphor or literary devices)
  • Uncomplicated, easy to understand sentences
  • A little humor
  • A moderate amount of text
  • A familiar story (folk tales, fairy tales, or fables are good)
  • A story that depicts aspects of daily life (cooking, sewing, farming, animals, gardening, and taking care of a child or someone who is ill)
