Ultimaker S5 3D Printer

Ultimaker S5 3D Printer

The Ultimaker S5 uses fused filament fabrication (FFF) print technology, which is the process of depositing layers of filament one on top of the other.

The build volume - the physical space inside the printer that can be used for printing - is 13 x 9.4 x 11.8 inches.

Our printer has a dual extrusion print head and swappable print cores (it can print in two colors.) Currently, our printer has an AA 0.4 and a BB 0.4 print head. Both print to a resolution of 200-20 microns.

The Ultimaker S5 runs on the Ultimaker Cura software platform, which is necessary to “slice” (prepare) the objects to be printed. Ultimaker Cura is available for free at https://ultimaker.com/software/ultimaker-cura

You can find free designs to print and modify at sites like Thingiverse or MyMiniFactory. Design your own using free online CAD software like Tinkercad or SketchUp Free.

3D Printer Submissions

Upload a file to be printed on our 3D printer. File must be in .stl format.

The maximum printable area of the 3D printer is 13 x 9.4 x 11.8 inches. If your file needs to be resized or if there are other concerns about the quality of the print a staff member will contact you to discuss options before printing begins. Not all colors are available at all times. If the color you choose isn’t available a staff member will contact you to discuss options. There may be long queues to use the 3D printer and as such the library cannot guarantee print times. A staff member will contact you when your item is finished printing. Printed items cost $0.10 a gram.  Before printing begins a staff member will contact you with a cost estimate.

All submissions must follow the Davenport Public Library's 3D Printer Policy which can be found within the Makerspace Policy
