Applying for disability benefits may be somewhat confusing, but there are resources available online and in print to help!

Question about what disability benefits are? Visit the Social Security Administration page and click over to the Disability Benefits handout.

Many acronyms are used when applying for disability. The most commonly used ones are:

  • SSD, also known as SSDI - Social Security Disability Insurance
  • SSI - Supplemental Security Income

How to Apply for Disability Benefits

Need help applying for disability benefits? The Social Security Administration has put together a helpful website that lists insturctions and informaiton packets about how to apply for disability benefits for a child, yourself or another adult.

The SSA's Disability Benefits site is the website you need to visit in order to apply for disability benefits and insurance.

The Disability Planner also lists instructions for how to apply, as well as providing a checklist, a starter kit, and information about how to appeal if you are denied.
