"'Iowa's First Lady 'Phebe Sudlow: educator broke national gender barriers in 19th century." Iowa History Journal by 2014-07 Club of '89 Records. In the fall of 1889, Phebe Sudlow began one of the first women's groups formed in Davenport, Iowa - a club for women of her church, St. John's Methodist. Membership was limited to 25 people because the group traditionally met at members' homes. The Club of '89 met weekly to study the women of the Bible. According to an undated constitution, its objective was the intellectual improvement and the promotion of higher moral and social condition. Over the years, the club transformed into an educational outlet that went beyond studying the Bible, with members sharing book discussions, reviews and current events. This club was still active as of 2020.This collection includes meeting minutes from 1897-2020; historic scrapbooks 1943-2020; photographic prints; yearbooks 1947-1988.

2004-03 Ladies Industrial Relief Society Records, 1896-1977. Records of the Ladies Industrial Relief Society and successor organizations. This organization was later known as Family and Children's Services, then became Family Resources, Inc.
